BOS Talks EDC and Town Communications

Mustering a quorum has not historically been the Economic Development Commission’s strong suit. Even with the new members we reported on last month, four of the previous members are still on the commission, three of whom have a history of being no-shows. With plenty of new applications for the commission to choose from, the Board of Selectmen decided last week to move toward adding alternates to the EDC.

Initially, First Selectman Bill Morrison suggested adding two alternate members, but Selectman Rick Hartenstein suggested that might not be enough. Instead, the BOS decided to make room for four alternates on the EDC. A change to the ordinance has to go through a Town Meeting vote, but the BOS decided it should also hold a public hearing to give the public a chance to have a say. Stay tuned for more information on when that will be scheduled.

Also on last week’s agenda was the town’s Everbridge system, which allows officials to communicate directly with townspeople. Morrison wants to promote the system to encourage more people to use it. Hartenstein suggested making it easier to find on the website, which led to a short discussion about updating the website in general.

For now, though, you can sign up for alerts from the town here. Once you set up your account, you can choose which kinds of alerts you want to receive (there are more options than you might think).
