Stafford Public Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Colleen Bava as the district’s new Chief Academic Officer/Assistant Superintendent. A passionate and experienced educational leader, Ms. Bava returns to the community where her journey in education first began.
Colleen began her career at the Borough School, working in Stafford’s Pre-Kindergarten program and Family Resource Center. Her early experiences in Stafford laid the foundation for her deep commitment to student-centered learning, equity, and collaborative leadership. She went on to serve in East Windsor and has most recently been a successful and well-regarded principal in Granby Public Schools.
Regarding her return to Stafford, Ms. Bava shared that coming back to the district feels like “returning home.” She emphasized the importance of working in a community that values hard work, care, and collaboration—especially when it comes to shaping the future of our schools and students.
“We are thrilled to welcome Colleen back to Stafford,” said Superintendent Scott Sugarman. “She brings not only strong instructional leadership, but also a deep understanding of how to build trust, inspire growth, and lead with both heart and purpose.”
“Ms. Bava will be a valuable addition to Stafford’s dynamic administrative team. She brings a wealth of experience that will strengthen and support the district’s instructional vision. The Board of Education looks forward to collaborating with Ms. Bava to ensure that all students receive a high-quality education,” said Board Chairwoman Sara Kelley.
As Chief Academic Officer/Assistant Superintendent, Ms. Bava will focus on ensuring that Stafford’s instructional vision is realized in every classroom, every day. She will work closely with school leaders and educators to support professional growth, strengthen teaching and learning practices, and ensure all students have the opportunity to feel safe, challenged, and successful.
Colleen Bava said, "Having spent years just one town away, I already feel a strong sense of connection to Stafford. I am proud to become part of a district that is committed to helping every student succeed. I look forward to working collaboratively with the staff, students, and families to ensure each student feels valued, supported, and inspired to grow."
