If you’re anything like me, you’ve got bookshelves stuffed with great deals from just about every library book sale you’ve ever come across–and you’ll be excited to know that it’s almost time for Stafford’s contribution to towering “to be read” piles all across New England.
The Friends of the Stafford Library’s Annual Used Book and Puzzle Sale will take place on Friday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, October 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
If you’re new to the world of library book sales, let me give you a few tips:
They are a great place to buy all the old classics (think Anna Karenina and Moby-Dick) you’ve been meaning to read but would otherwise have to spend a fortune to stock up on.
There are almost always copies of old best sellers, so if you missed The Goldfinch or My Brilliant Friend when everyone was talking about them, now is a great time to grab a copy.
I have an unreasonable and certainly one-sided grudge against Jonathan Franzen, and I rarely manage to finish one of his books. However, I still keep trying, so I buy his books at the steep discount provided by library book sales. If you have a love-hate relationship with an author, consider using my Franzen method.
When all else fails, buy a John Irving novel.
Books aren’t the only thing you can buy at the book sale. Among other things, you can purchase baked goods for $1.00. Additionally, the Friends of the Stafford Library would like you to know that the book sale is an excellent opportunity to become a Friend. They will have membership forms and free books for those who join.
