SHS Drama is ready to debut “Cinderella”

"Cinderella" is a story we all know and love, however, this musical is not the Disney version that most people know. In "Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella," Cinderella is still treated poorly by her stepmother and sisters. With the help of her fairy godmother (Marie), Cinderella is able to have the life of her dreams with her charming prince.
Our version of "Cinderella" was originally written as a TV musical, however it then became a movie musical. This musical will make you laugh and smile, but also has emotional scenes that will pull on your heartstrings.
In addition to the relationship of Cinderella and Prince Topher, this show also explores the relationship of stepsister Gabrielle and town activist Jean-Michel. Stepmother Madame hates Jean-Michel, so Gabrielle has to hide her love. The family finds out that the prince is giving a ball to find a bride to be queen. They decide to go to the ball, where the prince briefly meets Cinderella; however she leaves prior to him finding out her name. Lord Protector Sebastian decides to then have a banquet to find the missing girl.
Gabrielle doesn’t want to go to the banquet, and instead wants to volunteer at a soup kitchen with her man, Jean-Michel. Gabrielle fakes being sick, while Cinderella goes to the banquet after Madame and stepsister Charlotte leave the house. Jean-Michel enters the house and is asked out by Gabrielle. However, Madame walks in and everything goes awry. Gabrielle and Jean-Michel still have a great relationship by the end of the show.
The show will be Friday May 1, at 7 p.m., Saturday May 2 at 7 p.m., and Sunday May 3 at 2 p.m. Tickets will be $15. Tickets may be purchased at the door, or up to two hours before the show online using the following link: https://cur8.com/40020/project/138092
There will be concessions that will consist of various magical snacks and drinks, including candy, chips, etc. Make sure to be careful of foxes and raccoons on your way! The show will star Talyah G. as our leading lady Cinderella! Marian P. is the understudy for Cinderella, and we will also have Thomas M. as our Prince Topher. Lilly B. will be Madame (the evil stepmother), along with Julianna E. and Bella D. as Charlotte and Gabrielle (the stepsisters). Additionally, Devin A. is cast as Jean-Michel, Mady G. as Marie (the fairy godmother). Florencio (Leon) D. is our Lord Protector Sebastian, and lastly Weston B. will be Lord Pinkleton. There are a total of 16 students in the ensemble, with additional students in the crew and pit orchestra.

What is your favorite line in the show?
Devin- “I could be your boyfriend?”
Thomas- “I don’t think that is very kind, how can you call that kindness?”
Lilly- “Posture! Posture!”
What is your favorite moment from rehearsal?
Leon- “When I threw papers at Weston”
Bella- “Drawing on mustaches with Juli”
What is your favorite thing to do backstage?
Talyah- “listen to other people with their parts.”
Lilly- “I like to dance backstage”
Who in the cast would forget their lines during show week?
Lilly- “Devin, he is clumsy”
Bella- “Devin, he puts a lot of work into acting instead of line memorization"
Who is most likely to be late to rehearsal?
Devin- “Leon because he always needs to find a ride and he just has to shower before.”
Juli- “Devin, because he has a thing called a J O B.”
What would you say is the best part of being in drama?
Talyah- “The community, the people involved with the show.”
Thomas- “all the friendly faces”
What is something you will always remember about being in Cinderella?
Devin- “that this is his last show and that he will miss the drama department and all the friends he has made during it.”
Bella- “remembering getting a lead as a freshman and gaining more friendships with older students in the cast.”
